Sierra in the MidSouth

Hi! My Name Is Sierra in the MidSouth

I'm in the Recovery Room - I'll Be Available Soon

Meet our lovely ruby Cavalier King Charles Spaniel girl Sierra,—a gentle soul whose world is shaped by touch, scent, and the warmth of companionship. Though she’s blind and her hearing isn’t what it used to be, her happiness and sweet disposition shine brighter than ever.
From the moment you meet Sierra, you’ll notice her joyful spirit and endearing quirks. She adores knowing you’re in the room with her, contentedly settling on the chair by your side (or sometimes, all on her own), and always ready for a gentle cuddle. She’s happiest when her person is close, bringing her peace and a feeling of safety. This girl would thrive in a home where someone is present much of the time—her sense of security blossoms when she knows you’re near.

Sierra has a grade 4/6 heart murmur, so our rescue had chest x-rays, and below are the medical notes from the vet:

Pet does have Grade 4/6 heart murmur- chest radiographs approved, no coughing appreciated so far while pet is here- no significant LA enlargement, recommend repeat chest radiographs in 6 months, consider echo for more information, monitor resting RR at home
& monitor for increased coughing/respiratory effort. Sierra is current not taking heart medication, and will need to have ongoing monitoring.

She gets along beautifully with other dogs, and her nurturing instincts shine as she lovingly grooms her canine friend. With cats, however, she’s a little less harmonious—though she can’t see the household cat, she’s certain of its presence and will let everyone know with a chorus of barks (especially after dinner, when the cat claims the counter in a nightly ritual that’s become an ongoing comedy act). If your home is cat-free, she’d likely prefer it that way.
House trained and well-mannered, she settled in beautifully once her tummy troubles were resolved. She does best with Hill’s Science Diet Perfect Digestion—her tummy is a bit sensitive, so consistency is important! She eats breakfast around 8:00 a.m. and dinner at 6:00 p.m., with a gentle walk or a trip outside just after meals, as that’s when nature calls.
At night, she rests in her crate (door open, water nearby), tucked in a cozy butler’s pantry with the room closed off. She may bark a bit overnight—she likes to announce her presence and check in!—but otherwise settles down and is a champion sleeper... and snorer. Her snoring is legendary, and you’ll always know where she is by her rumbling lullabies.
Routine is her anchor. First thing in the morning, she goes outside, then enjoys some quiet time until breakfast. When you’re home, she’ll nap contentedly, always happiest knowing you’re not too far away. She’s independent enough to get up and down from chairs, but beds are a little too high for her to navigate safely.
While she doesn’t enjoy car rides (crate or no crate), she’s a superstar on a leash. Enjoys her walks.
She would truly flourish in a home where someone is around most of the time; she feels safest and most content when she senses her person nearby. Though she cannot see, she navigates her world with remarkable confidence, easily finding her way and adapting to her surroundings. She’s comfortable with others in the home and is not fearful—her gentle spirit allows her to move about just fine.
Her favorite perch is the chair, which she’ll climb into whether you’re right beside her or she’s settling in for some solo relaxation. She’s perfectly capable of getting down from the chair on her own, but beds are a bit too high for her to manage safely, so she’s happiest when given a cozy, accessible spot to rest. Her independence and resilience shine through, making her a delightful companion in a home that appreciates her courage and gentle heart.
Sierra is not quite ready for adoption just yet, as she is still receiving the medical attention she needs. Being blind, Sierra will soon be seen by a veterinary ophthalmologist to better understand how we can help her thrive. We appreciate your interest and encourage you to check back for updates as Sierra continues her journey. We will share news on her progress and let you know as soon as she becomes available for adoption. Thank you for supporting Sierra as she takes these important steps forward.
