Rupert is a 4 - year‑old ruby Cavalier who has just arrived in rescue, and while he isn’t quite ready for adoption yet, he’s already showing us what a genuinely lovely dog he is. He has been diagnosed with dry eye and will need to see a veterinary ophthalmologist, so he’ll remain in our care while we complete his medical evaluation. He is also in need of a dental.
💛 About Rupert
Rupert is a sweet, affectionate cuddle‑bug who thinks head and ear rubs are his birthright. He’s gentle, social, and curious in new surroundings, and he’s been friendly with both dogs and people—at home, on walks, and even at the vet. He startles at loud noises but recovers quickly and isn’t a vocal dog.
He has shown no resource guarding, eats calmly near other dogs, and responds beautifully to soft verbal cues. He knows sit, responds to his name indoors, and is catching on quickly to household routines. After one initial “new place” mark, he has been clean in the house.
🐾 Home & Manners
• Walks nicely on leash with light guidance
• Crate trained for both sleeping and when left alone
• Early riser (around 6:30 a.m.)
• Loves to give “hugs” and is learning not to jump up
• Friendly with other dogs and people
• Not reactive, not demanding, and settles well
• Prone to motion sickness, so car rides are best on an empty stomach
Rupert is a larger, solid Cavalier who could benefit from losing 4–5 pounds. He arrived with a very short “boot camp” haircut, so his feathers and slippers will grow back over time.
🌿 Ideal Future Home
Rupert would thrive in a home that can offer regular attention, gentle structure, and daily exercise. A yard to explore would be a dream for him. Because of his size and enthusiasm, older children would be a better match than very young ones. He adapts well to a calm environment but has the temperament to settle into many types of homes.
Rupert is not yet available for adoption while we complete his medical work‑up, including his ophthalmology evaluation. We’ll share updates as we learn more about his needs and personality.
