Meet Pretzel! This darling 4-month-old ruby Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is as delightful as her name suggests. Pretzel is a spirited and affectionate puppy who is ready to leap headfirst into the loving arms of her future family.
Pretzel's Story
Pretzel came into rescue under unique circumstances, with her mother, who has significant heart disease and, we were told Pretzel is the result of a brother to sister breeding. While her beginnings may be unusual and less than ideal, Pretzel's heart checked out ok at this time. We have reported those echocardiogram results performed by a Board Certified Veterinary Cardiologist. Pretzel has been diagnosed with a grade 3/4 luxated patella on her left side, which she may require surgery to repair when she's old enough. While she is not quite ready for adoption, she remains in good spirits as she awaits further veterinary care, including her upcoming spay surgery. For now, her medical team continues to monitor her progress closely and will provide updates as she recovers. In the meantime, Pretzel’s playful personality and affectionate nature shine through, making her a delight to foster and a pup worth waiting for.
Below are the echocardiogram results for Pretzel :
Normal Cardiac Exam - There is no evidence of congenital or acquired heart disease on today's examination and systolic/pump function is normal. This is of course great news for Pretzel. This does not, however, preclude Pretzel from ever developing heart disease in the future and if concerns arise (e.g. the development of a heart murmur) we would want to recheck her. Otherwise, no cardiac interventions are warranted at this time.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Medications: No cardiac medications are necessary at this time.
Diet: No diet modifications are necessary at this time.
Exercise: No exercise modifications necessary at this time.
Anesthesia: No special anesthesia precautions are indicated for the heart. In any patient, we want to carefully monitor heart rhythm and blood pressure under general anesthesia and not give more intravenous fluids than are necessary for hemodynamic support.
Monitor For: Cough, shortness of breath (fast or labored breathing), collapse, or exercise intolerance: Please seek medical attention for Pretzel if you notice any of these signs
Reevaluation: No cardiac follow - up is absolutely necessary unless there are future concerns (presence of murmur or development of an arrhythmia or clinical signs).
Personality & Temperament
Pretzel is the perfect blend of puppy energy and snuggly sweetness. She wakes up brimming with enthusiasm, eager to run, play, and explore her world. Toys are her favorite—she adores chasing them and is learning to bring them back, proudly showing off her growing skills. Pretzel is a champion cuddler, happiest when nestled in with her foster human or cozied up with another dog. She loves to know where everyone is at all times and will follow you around, always ready to be part of the action (or simply settle under your feet).
She’s a social butterfly, delighting in the company of all people, whether kids or adults. Pretzel greets everyone with a friendly “kiss” (lots of licks!) and is always up for being picked up and held. She’s also gentle and relaxed in the car, quietly resting on the seat for the ride.
Training & Habits
Like any young puppy, Pretzel is learning her manners and working on basic skills. She’s making wonderful progress with leash walking, not jumping, and potty training. Pretzel is very reliable about pottying outside when you take her out and hasn’t had any accidents in her kennel. She sleeps in her kennel overnight and wakes up ready for breakfast and playtime.
Pretzel naps during the day in her dog bed or on a lap, sometimes snuggling up with her foster “sibling.” She’s curious and loves to explore, but always comes when called. Her mealtime is twice daily, and she gobbles down her food with gusto—treats are always welcome!
Ideal Home
Pretzel would do best with someone experienced with puppies, or with a family willing to dedicate the time and patience a young dog requires. She would happily join a home with other dogs, as she enjoys their companionship and is respectful in her interactions. Pretzel’s boundless energy and loving heart will flourish in a home committed to her continued training, socialization, and care.
