Piper in Great Plains

Hi! My Name Is Piper in Great Plains

I'm in the Recovery Room - I'll Be Available Soon

Age: Senior
Sex: Female (spayed)
Color: Blenheim
Special Note: Piper is totally deaf

Piper is a gentle, quiet, and deeply affectionate senior girl who has just begun settling into her foster home. Even in her first days, her sweet nature shines through. She happily walks up to greet strangers, follows her person from room to room, and enjoys curling up beside someone for naps and belly rubs. She gets along beautifully with other dogs and is even friendly with the resident cat.

Despite being deaf, Piper navigates her world with confidence. She walks nicely on a leash with only light pulling, enjoys short strolls in the neighborhood, and knows how to go up and down stairs. She already responds to simple hand signals and is eager to stay close to her person. Piper has had zero accidents in her foster home thanks to a consistent potty schedule, and she sleeps soundly through the night. She prefers the comfort of the bed or couch over a crate and loves a cozy lap.

Piper has a few adorable quirks—she snores like a freight train, makes soft snorts when enjoying a treat, and spins in a little circle before going potty. She hasn’t barked yet and has shown no fears or anxieties. She rode quietly in a crate during transport and is a slow, polite eater who appreciates having her own space at mealtime.

Medical Status (In Progress)

Piper is not yet ready for adoption. She is currently receiving care for:

• Heart murmur – echocardiogram scheduled • Dental disease – missing/bad teeth; dental needed after cardiology clearance • Yeast ear infection – improving with treatment • Right‑sided head tilt – improving; may be habitual • Diet transition – moving to food without peas/legumes • Occasional scratching – skin currently in good condition; monitoring • Ear health – will require ongoing attention

No cyst was found on her tail.

Personality & Ideal Home

Piper is an easy, loving foster with a calm, go‑with‑the‑flow temperament. As she becomes more comfortable, little glimpses of playfulness are emerging—she even surprised everyone by dashing into the yard to chase something with another dog. Once her ears and teeth are fully addressed, her personality will likely blossom even more.

She would enjoy a home with another friendly dog who could help be her “ears,” but she could also thrive as an only pet with a human who is home much of the time. She would do well with gentle, older children and anyone who appreciates a quiet, cuddly companion who wants to be near her people.

Piper loves soft beds, warm laps, short walks, exploring the yard, and long naps. She hasn’t shown interest in toys yet, but she delights in treats and companionship.

Availability

Piper will be available for adoption after her echocardiogram, dental evaluation, and full medical clearance. For now, she is enjoying a safe, loving foster home while we learn more about her needs.
