Prefer a home with at least one other friendly dog and humans who have experience with rescue dogs.
Louie came to rescue with 45 of his siblings. He is a bit tall for a cavalier but is as sweet as can be. He is a bit shy and skittish, but once he gets used to you he is happy to cuddle next to you on the couch. His freckled face is so adorable he is hard to resist.
Louie loves to spend time on the deck, sunning, and on the couch, sleeping. He sleeps in his crate ant night and happily spends some time in his crate during the day. He isn’t wild about “yard time”. He much prefers pavement to grass. But given the opportunity to run free in a yard, he is happy to do so. He has been a champ about going outside for potty breaks and no longer has any accidents. No dog eats faster than Louie, so be prepared to get him a puzzle bowl if you adopt him.
He’s not bad on a leash, but still needs work. He knows “sit”, but “Stay”, “down” and “wait” are foreign concepts. He gets along with other cavaliers. He would benefit from a fenced yard and would not do well if he is left at home all day. He has a bit of separation anxiety so if you work outside the home all day — this is not the dog for you. He will howl when you leave him, so apartment or condo life is also not optimal.
You must live within a 2 hour drive of northern Virginia to be considered for adoption.
