From the moment Max trotted through our doors, he won us over with a wag (albeit a short one!) and his loving, gentle spirit. Max is a 10-year-old tri-color Cavalier King Charles Spaniel with a docked tail, and if you’re searching for a dog who truly embodies the phrase “as sweet as they come,” look no further than this charming fellow.
Max’s affectionate nature shines in every interaction. He loves to remind you he’s around with an endearing little bark, just to make sure you haven’t forgotten about him. Despite the newness of his environment, Max adjusted with an ease that speaks volumes about his adaptable and resilient personality. He requires no additional training for crate or leash manners—he’s already a seasoned pro!
Max is a true food enthusiast who can inhale both of his meals in record time. To keep him safe and happy at mealtimes, we recommend that Max is always fed in his crate to prevent competition or food-guarding tension with other dogs. His foster mom utilizes a puzzle feeder to slow him down, but you could also use snuffle mats that require foraging and/or slow-down bowls with ridges or compartments. Max can become so focused on food that he may miss or ignore other dogs’ subtle signals. For that reason, we recommend he does not live with dogs who are known to guard resources or show food-aggressive behaviors. While Max typically sits and waits for treats, he may not recognize when another dog is uneasy or protective around food and conflicts can arise if a housemate dog has a history of guarding toys, bowls, or treats. Adopters should monitor all food and treat interactions closely—especially during the first few weeks. By establishing clear boundaries and supervision around meal and snack time, you’ll help ensure harmony and prevent misunderstandings. In addition, Max is a stealthy forager when it comes to human food; ensuring it’s inaccessible will prevent unwanted bonus meals. Never leave plates of food items unattended and supervise Max closely in the kitchen and dining areas until he’s reliably settled. In addition, we recommend keeping trashcans covered or locked away.
Max is confident and friendly with other dogs of all sizes. He has also met a few cats in his time with us. While he initially barked at them, he’s already learning to dial back his excitement and is figuring out how to peacefully coexist—progress we’re excited to see continue!
Max’s delightful personality and laid-back attitude make him an ideal companion for many types of families. He is an excellent car rider and great on walks, or perfectly fine to hang out wherever his people are. Max is the embodiment of comfort: he relishes long naps, savors cozy snuggles, and thrives on any bit of attention you can spare. At night, he might curl up right beside you, above your head on the pillow, or boldly commandeer your pillow as his own the moment he gets a chance. Wherever he settles, you can count on endless warmth and companionship. If you’re ready to welcome a loyal, loving companion into your life, Max just might be the perfect match. Come meet him and see for yourself how sweet life with Max can be!
